Reds' 2025 Season Preview

As the weather warms up, so do the bats of the 30 MLB teams. While fans all over the league have varying levels of expectations, the 2025 version of the Cincinnati Reds has some lofty expectations. For a team that has had one underwhelming season after another, the city needs to see a glimmer of hope from the Reds. From key departures and new additions to some familiar faces you should keep an eye on, this article will give a great rundown of the Red’s upcoming season.

One thing the Reds did a fairly good job at this off-season

was keeping the production from last year. The only notable departures were Jonathan India and Luke Maile, and a few arms out of the bullpen. These losses shouldn’t be felt by the Reds team that has some of the better depth in the league, especially in the infield. Regarding who they added, Gavin Lux and Austin Hays are the most notable. They also added Brady Singer from the Royals, who they got in their trade with Jonathan India. Lux should be an everyday player, but where has not yet been decided. He is a versatile player, who has been able to play at different spots in the infield and the outfield. Singer should be able to find his way into the rotation, especially now that Graham Ashcraft has been sent down to Triple-A to start the season.  Players who are returning that will play a huge role in the team’s success are the usual faces: Elly De La Cruz, Matt McClain, Spencer Steer, and plenty of other young players from the Reds Farm system. Perhaps one of the most important players this year will be Tj Friedl. While he doesn’t provide much power, he was a .300 batter just 2 years ago before his injury. So a Reds team that has thrived off of the long ball over the last few seasons would love to see a face that can reach base at an elite rate. Another important factor would be making sure De La Cruz has support around him. If he is the only real threat in the Red's batting order, it will be another disappointing result Look for Lux, Jeimer Candelario, and McClain to play a huge role in this.

Now that we know who is on the team, what should be expected of this roster? Well, this team will only go as far as their new manager, Terry Francona, will take them. They have an elite pitching staff, headlined by ace Hunter Greene, and lefty Nick Lodolo. The talent in the batting order is more than enough to become a feared lineup for any pitcher. But the question is: Will it? This is what Reds fans have been asking for 3 years. If Francona, a multiple-time world champion, can build this team the right way, the Reds should be playing for a spot in the postseason, if not more. If they can’t, the Reds will end the season with yet another disappointing record.
