Is Kanye West going broke? After multiple Anti-Semetic comments made by Ye circulated in the media, the state of his finances is in question. On October 16th Kanye (Ye) West’s interview with Revolt TV’s Drink Champs was posted but deleted very soon after. Ye made very harsh Anti-Semitic comments against the Jewish community in this interview. It did not stop there. The next day Ye made more Anti-Semitic comments in an interview with Chris Cuomo on NewsNation. He has also posted a lot of these comments on his public Twitter account. The consequences of Kanye’s actions have definitely not sufficed. Since the comments made by West, twelve brands and counting have dropped him. Here are a few brands Ye is no longer associated with:
One of the biggest brands that have dropped Kanye is Adidas. Adidas and Kanye have been partnered since 2015, when he debuted and marketed the famous shoe brand, Yeezy. He has been the face of the sneaker brand ever since. On October 25th Adidas posted the following statement about Kanye, “After a thorough review, the company has taken the decision to terminate the partnership with Ye immediately, end production of Yeezy branded products, and stop all payments to Ye and his company.”
The high-end fashion brand Balenciaga is the next and one of the first brands that have parted ways with Ye. He worked very closely with Demna, a designer for Balenciaga and their Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga drops. He even worked and opened their most recent runway show. After Kanye’s appalling comments Balenciaga deleted the image of Ye walking the runway and Paris fashion week for the brand and also removed their “Engineered by Balenciaga” collected from the website. They then released this short statement saying, “Balenciaga has no longer any relationship with nor any plans for future projects related to this artist.”
The third brand cutting ties with Ye is The RealReal. The RealReal is a popular luxury resale website endorsed by many famous celebrities and influencers. However, they will no longer be accepting any products related to Ye, but products on the website will stay until they are sold. They recently released this statement about the matter, “Since our founding, we have been committed to creating a safe space for every employee, consignor, and customer - regardless of age, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or race - and we will not tolerate remarks that demonstrate discrimination or call for violence.”
After Balenciaga and Adidas released their statements, Gap shortly followed suit. Gap had originally signed a 10-year contract with Ye, but it was severed in September this year. On October 25th, hours after Adidas cut ties with Ye, they released this rather lengthy statement, “In September, Gap announced ending its Yeezy Gap partnership. Our former partner’s recent remarks and behavior further underscore why. We are taking immediate steps to remove Yeezy Gap products from our stores and we have shut down yeezygap.com. Antisemitism, racism, and hate in any form are inexcusable and not tolerated in accordance with our values. On behalf of our customers, employees, and shareholders, we are partnering with organizations that combat hate and discrimination.” After releasing this statement, Gap removed all Yeezy Gap products from its website and closed stores relating to the brand.
Ye’s actions have definitely caused his career to take a major hit. Is there any way that Ye will come back from this? Comment your opinions down below.
